After a legal battle Nintendo finally owns the rights to the SuperMario.com domain, just in time for the game's release in 1985.

You may not have known it but up until now Nintendo has not owned the SuperMario.com domain. However, the company has recently acquired the domain after filing a case with the World Intellectual Property Organization.

As the game Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985 it is hardly surprising the domain name wasn't taken then but now Nintendo finally own the rights to it. At the moment they have done nothing with the domain but with the release of Super Mario 3D Land later in the year we wouldn't be surprised if something comes about from this acquisition.

However, the company still have some way to go if they want to completely secure all Mario-related domain names. Domains such as SuperMarioBros.com are still owned by others but perhaps Nintendo will begin trying to own the rights to all of them.
