News: Nintendo Hit 50m Wiis, 100m DS Sold

50m Wii consoles and 100m DS handhelds have been sold, with the Wii becoming the fastest selling hardware ever. Revolution!

Japanese newspaper Nikkei is reporting that by the end of March the Wii will have sold more than 50 million units worldwide. This staggering achievement means that the Wii will have beaten the PS2 to the milestone, which Sony's console took longer to achieve back when the PS2 was first shipped.

Meanwhile, Nintendo have confirmed that the 100 millionth DS (including the Lite and DSi) was sold back on March 6th - 4 years 3 months and 2 weeks since the handheld's 2004 launch. In comparison, the GameBoy and GBA sold 118 million and 81 million respectively.

Quite a month for milestones!
