News: Nintendo MP3 Player Details

New details emerge regarding the add-on for the Nintendo DS.

Let's face it, if you wanted to purchase a media-entertainment handheld games device that could play movies and MP3s, the Nintendo DS would not be right at the top of your list of suggestions.

However, there have been such add-ons for Nintendo handhelds in the past, such as the Play-Yan, which allow you to do some of these things.

Enter the Nintendo MP3 player Add-on for the Nintendo DS. At Leipzig, this made a surprise appearence, but it was definitely a nice surprise.

The Play-Yan has previously only been made available for Japanese consumers. However, this MP3 player will be made available in Europe for the small price of 29.99 EUR. No release date has been given, but it is a pretty safe bet to suggest that this may be released alongside the Opera Web-Browser in Europe.

The Add-on slots into the Gameboy Advance port on the Nintendo DS. This device will also be playable on the Gameboy Advance itself, so it's accessible to a wide audience. To store the actual music, you'll need SD cards. Up to 2GB size cards are supported and this will allow you to store about 500 or so songs. You will also have the lovely option to change skins, like you can with programs such as Winamp. Pretty neat stuff.

We'll bring you more information on this as it comes in.
