Reggie Fils-Aime has claimed that Nintendo are not planning on making mobile phones.

In spite of Microsoft and Sony both releasing mobile phones Nintendo has no plans to do so according to Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime. Speaking to CNN he said: "We believe that we will earn our way into someone's pocket without having to offer that (phone capability) as an additional factor."

This doesn't mean Nintendo have not considered it according to producer Hideki Konno, who claims: "I look at the business model, and I see so many additional costs that come into play." It would seem that the increased cost to gamers is what is putting Nintendo off for now.

While Nintendo originally filed for a patent for a game-playing phone back in 2001 according to Mr. Fils-Aime "from Nintendo's perspective, we don't see that we have a competitive advantage in telephony." It would appear that for the time being we won't see a Nintendo phone but who knows what the future may bring.
