News: Nintendo Not Worried About Retail Support

Is Nintendo taking the expression "ignorance is bliss" a bit too far, or are they correct? You can decide inside.
After recent price drops for the GameCube implemented by retailers such as Woolworths and Argos several people have been worried that retail stores are abandoning the GameCube in favour of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
Nintendo have issued a statement on the matter. "Argos is currently running a number of promotions of which Nintendo Gamecube is one. Nintendo Gamecube is still the best value home console on the market and Nintendo Gamecube is currently available in over 4500 stockists across the UK including HMV, Toys R Us, GAME, GameStation, Virgin Megastore and Woolworths.
"We have a very strong software line-up for Nintendo Gamecube in 2005 including Resident Evil 4, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and The Legend of Zelda."
Another spokesperson for Nintendo added that Argos "will continue to fully support Gamecube with the Mario Kart Platinum Pak at 79.99. They are still fully behind us on GBA. This will be evident in their Spring/Summer 05 catalogue which is out soon."
However Woolworths are planning on dropping the GameCube from at least their larger stores. I work there and will check the guide next time I am in and see what it says, but I do believe they plan to completely clear it out.
It shall be interesting to see if places such as Argos and Woolworths will still be interesting in the Nintendo DS in March, after the success of the console in America and Japan.
