More 2D outings for Mario are on the way, in response to enthusiastic sales of New Super Mario Bros. Wii!

Since its launch just a month ago, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has already sold well over a million units in Japan, over two million copies in North America and has been doing very well in Europe too.

Nintendo company President Satoru Iwata has spoken about the future of the series, stating that more 2D Mario titles can be expected in the future due to the success of the game:

"I feel that 2D Mario titles will definitely be made along these lines. I don't think there's any other way."

When the next 2D Mario will be, we don't know. But it'll probably after next year, when the world's favourite plumber returns to 3D for Super Mario Galaxy 2.
