News: Nintendo Power Reveals Sonic RPG

The previously announced Bioware Sonic RPG has a name and some details were revealed.

Bioware, the Microsoft studio known for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and more recently Mass Effect are making a Sonic RPG for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo Power got some juicy info on it. The name of the game is Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and according to NeoGaf forum user giggas that had access to the mag, the game will be controlled with the touch screen, combat is turn based, but fast paced, there are no random battles, there are 11 characters available to the party, the known ones being Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, Shadow and Big the Cat. The party can only support 4 characters at the time, there are team attacks (similar to Chrono Trigger) and the special attacks are used via a touch screen "mini-game" similar to Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan.

When a character levels up you choose the attributes you and skills you wish to evolve and special attacks can also be bought. Each character has a special ability (Tails can fly for a while for example)and the party can be split up at specific moments. The currency in the game will be rings, there will be side-quests and the dialogue trees will be simple. The first part of the game will be set in the classic Sonic world, while the second part will have a darker setting. The cutscenes will be fully animated, the backgrounds seem hand drawn and the music will feature some remixed classic tunes from Sonic games.

Spoilers: Storyline details follow - only read on if you don't mind hearing plot details detailing the beginning of the title!

Sonic was taking a rest from defeating Eggman/Robotnik 2 years ago, when he gets a call from Tails saying that Knuckles was kidnapped by a group called The Marauders and that the chaos emeralds are missing. Eggman is not the main villain, but Bioware is working on making him a credible bad guy.

So there you have it, big thanks to NeoGaf user giggas that got the info from Nintendo Power. More as we get it.
