News: Nintendo Reports Healthy Sales

More hardware shipments, more revenue, and official worldwide totals for the Wii and DS. Nintendo reveals just how well its been doing thus far in 2007...

Nintendo has today announced first-quarter financial results for the three-month period between April and June 2007 and has announced a boost in the annual annual forecast of hardware and software shipments for both the Wii and Nintendo DS game systems.

Soaring sales of the Wii and DS have seen Nintendo's profits up 416% on this period last year, with the company raking in 340,439 million yen, equivalent to about �1.4bn, or �2bn.

Wii hardware for this year have increased from 14m to 16.5m, while Wii software increases to 72 million from a previous forecast of 55 million. The forecast for Nintendo DS hardware shipments increases to 140 million from a previous forecast of 130 million.

Additionally, Nintendo confirmed that from the end of June, worldwide sales of the Wii have reached 9.27 million units, while the Nintendo DS total stands at 47.27 million.
