News: Nintendo Responds to 3DS Firmware Rumours

Nintendo has issued a statement about yesterday's rumours that a firmware update could invalidate 3DS consoles that have used flash cards.

Yesterday we reported a rumour that suggests Nintendo may implement a firmware update that would see any 3DS consoles that have used a flash card useless. It has caused a huge reaction amongst fans and now Nintendo has responded to Eurogamer.

"We do not discuss product security details (for obvious reasons), nor can we discuss the details of countermeasures available in the Nintendo 3DS system. Nintendo 3DS has the most up-to-date technology. The security has been designed to protect both the creative works in the software and to protect the Nintendo 3DS hardware system itself."

Unsurprisingly it is not an outright denial or a confirmation but at least they have addressed the issue. Naturally the best way to remain safe is to not use any flash cards with the 3DS when it is released at the end of the month.
