News: Nintendo Reveal DSi XL!

A new version of the DSi with larger screens will release in Japan next month, it's been announced.

In what seems to be a move calculated to attract an older generation, Nintendo's Japanese division has unveiled a new version of its DSi console set to release next month.

Dubbed the DSi LL, the new handheld is a larger version of the console which released in the region late last year. The LL has screens sized at 4.2 inches - significantly larger than the current DSi. The console as a whole will also be quite a bit bigger to cater for the screens.

Another perk the DSi LL comes with is a flashy new 'touch pen' alongside the normal stylus. The new SKU also has a slightly longer battery life than the current DSi, even though it weighs about 50% more. When it releases in Japan, the console will have pre-installed on it three of Nintendo's casual DSiWare range: A Bit of Brain Training: Arts, A Bit of Brain Training: Science and Kiyou Akira Rakuhiku Language Easier.

The DSi LL goes on sale in Japan on November 21st, retailing at 20,000 yen. Via ONM, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the console will hit the continent in the first quarter of 2010, releasing as 'DSi XL'.
