News: Nintendo Reveal Wii & DS Tidbits

Nintendo reveal all details on the system are to be confirmed by September at the latest, as they let a few other tidbits leak...

More news on the DS and Wii has emerged from Nintendo's HQ today, as the gaming giant confirmed that all details on the Wii would be revealed by the end of the Summer, quoting September as the month we'd know everything by.

Our earlier report on Nintendo's financial earnings quoted the company as stating they'd have six million Wii consoles shipped by the end of the financial year in April 2007 - apparently this will include four million shipped before the end of December 2006, and two million more in the first quarter of 2007.

New software available to download via the virtual console (not the ports of old games) could cost as little as 500-1000 yen (about 2-5, 3-6). It was also mentioned the DS version of the Opera browser has slipped a month to July in Japan.

Some interesting stats on DS titles were revealed - 32% of DS owners bought Animal Crossing, 23% picked up Mario Kart, 14% grabbed a copy of Tetris and 20% nabbed New Super Mario Bros. Ten titles have now shipped over a million copies each.

Finally, Nintendo announced Pokémon Battle Revolution for the Wii, which will feature DS-Wii compatibility. Head over to our full article on this piece of news for all the details!
