News: Nintendo Reveals US November Sales

3DS officially passes its predecessor's first-year sales in under nine months...

Nintendo has revealed the NPD sales for the month of November, and whilst none of its hardware topped the resurgent HD systems, Nintendo was content to shift over 2 million combined hardware units in the US.

Wii led the pack with over 860,000 systems sold. November saw the system enjoy its best ever Black Friday performance thanks to a number of low-priced bundles, with 520,000 systems sold in a single day. Still, the total figure was down from the November performance of almost all previous years - it only beat out November of 2006, where the Wii launched half-way into the month.

3DS shifted over 795,000 units during the month, which in context is pretty outstanding. It was the system's best ever month, and increased its sales from October by over 215 percent. November also saw 3DS officially overtake the full-year sales of the Nintendo DS's first year on shelves. 3DS sailed by that 2.37 million figure, and now sits closer to 2.5 million sold.

The DS itself managed a comparatively modest 350,000 sold for the month.

There was also plenty of success to be had on the software side of things. Super Mario 3D Land managed to sell over 625,000 units, making it the fastest-selling portable Mario title ever in the US.

Nintendo also confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which launched on November 20th, sold over 600,000 copies in its first week.

With Mario Kart 7 having joined in the action recently, December might just be the fiercest month in a long time, so stay tuned as we see just how high 3DS can reach over Christmas.
