News: Nintendo Shifts 6 Million Wii Units In UK

As the Wii becomes the fastest selling console of all time in the UK, it's clear that this one prints money too.

Nintendo UK have confirmed that the Japanese giant's quest for global domination today reached a new milestone, as the latest figures from Chart Track-GfK show that the Wii has become the fastest-selling console in history in the UK, shifting over 6 million units in just three years.

The Wii launched on December 8th 2006 in the UK and was met with a very positive reception from the British public. The incredible demand for the console resulted in preorders going unfulfilled, and left many consumers still seeking out a magic white box months into 2007.

General Manager of Nintendo UK David Yarnton stepped up to comment on the news earlier today. "With its inclusive, family friendly and fun nature, we're very pleased Wii seems to have captured the imagination of over six million families across the UK and reached such a landmark sales figure in such a short space of time. We'll work even harder to ensure that the interest in Wii stretches over months and years, appealing to people of all ages and gaming experience."

The Wii shows no signs of slowing down in the UK, and with Nintendo preparing highly anticipated titles such as Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M for release in 2010, it looks like there's never been a better time to own a Wii.
