News: Nintendo Speaks Sales Figures

At a press conference held in the ‘Four seasons’ hotel, in New York, Peter MacDougall and various other Nintendo reps. Nintendo gave a number of statistics at it’s sales figures for last year. Many of these statistics seemed very high, especially when a graph was shown of Gamecube and X-Box’s overall market share. Nintendo Gamecube had almost doubled on X-Box partially because of X-Box’s launch in Japan is yet to take place.

Nintendo then revealed a list of sales figures for its software titles and third-party titles. Have a look for yourself.

Title Units
1. Super Smash Bros. Melee 643,996
2. Luigi’s Mansion 602,835
3. Star Wars: Rogue Leader 487,810
4.Pikmin 277,443
5.T.Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 264,798
6.Madden NFL 2002 226,230
7.Wave Race: Blue Storm 201,641
8.Super Monkey Ball 147,408
9.SSX Tricky 82,432
10.NHL Hitz 2002 69,920

So what do you think? Are Nintendo going strong or are they slowing down. As you can see First-party games on this list are actually doing quite well, in the case of SSBM it’s doing extremely well! But the third-party titles on here are virtually all ports from other consoles. Yeah, it’s great us Gamecube lovers can play wicked games such as ‘SSX Tricky’ and ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3’ but they are not selling well because people have already got them on their PS2 etc.

Still at the moment both Nintendo and Microsoft’s sales figures for their consoles are still sketchy. It hasn’t been ling since the release and companies are saying different things. Stay tuned to cube-europe.com and we will give you the truth! Facts! If Luigi’s Mansion wasn’t the fastest selling game of all time then, we’ll tell you it wasn’t!

So the speculation of this, first killer app in this case all of Nintendo’s titles for me, and a lot of people are all killer-apps but the one that’s meant to make the console sell. In this case ‘Luigi’s Mansion’ and in the X-Box’s ‘Halo: Combat Evolved’. So which one did better, both companies are saying theirs was the ‘fastest selling piece of video-gaming software of all-time’. As I said earlier we don’t know! But from the figures here we can see that it looks like it’s about time for the facts to be released and in Nintendo’s case already released.
