News: Nintendo Still Struggling To Meet Demand

Demand is far outweighing supply for the Wii. It can only mean good news!

Laurent Fischer, Senior Marketing Director for Nintendo Europe recently got chatting to GamesIndustry.biz to talk about the demand for Nintendo's new system.

Fischer himself has admitted that Nintendo are struggling to keep up with demand.

"We are still struggling to deliver the right numbers of hardware to cope with demand. We're planning to increase the production capacity but it's not something that can be done in a couple of days. We have to be patient."

Nintendo themselves plan to shift six million Wii units by the end of March, and so far all signs are pointing to them achieving that. Have Nintendo underestimated their own potential?

"It's astonishing to think that with six million we're not able to fulfil the initial demand," says Fischer.

With a number of big hitting titles not even given a release date yet, Nintendo still have the potential to bring in more consumers with the Wii. Things are certainly on the up.
