Nintendo leads the nominations in an all-round strong showing for Wii and DS.
The nominations for the most prestigious awards in the industry have been announced, and it looks like another Nintendo clean-up could be on the cards.
Miyamoto's latest magnum opus Super Mario Galaxy leads the way for Wii titles, picking up three BAFTA nominations for Best Game, Best Gameplay and Best Use of Audio. Nintendo's Wii Fit is also poised to go away with a decent haul, with showings in the Best Casual Game, Best Sports game and the public-decided Game of 2008.
Professor Layton is also nominated for Game of 2008 and Best Handheld Game, though the latter could be nagged by Zelda: Phantom Hourglass instead. Mopping up the rest of the first party nominations is Mario Kart Wii, which has its eyes on Best Gameplay and Best Multiplayer, and Advance Wars: Dark Conflict which receives a nod in Best Strategy.
Other nominated non-Nintendo titles to note are Boom Blox in the Best Casual category, Geometry Wars: Galaxies and Soul Bubbles which will fight for Best Handheld Game, while Ninjatown and Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise vie for Best Strategy.
The video game BAFTAs take place on March 10th. For the full list of nominees, click the link below.
