News: Nintendo Sued $21 Million For Infringement

D'oh! Nintendo in 'not another videogames-related lawsuit' shocker!

It's funny how things come back to bite you in the ass. Spending money you don't have, for example, only then having to move into a cardboard box. But enough about us! Nintendo has just has a lawsuit filed in 2006 come back to get it, costing the company $21 million in patent infringement charges.

The lawsuit in question was filed by small East Texas-based games company Anascape Ltd. over the designs of the Wii Classic, WaveBird and GameCube controllers, and a federal jury found Nintendo to have infringed on the patent. Nintendo of America spokesman Charlie Scibetta said Nintendo was pleased there was no infringement found in the Wii and Nunchuck controllers, but still isn't best pleased, understandably. Nintendo is seeking an appeal for the court to reduce the charges slightly.

What does this mean for us gamers? Nothing, which is good! However, who knows what the future holds for controller lawsuits? Anascape previously sued Microsoft for patent infringements though the two companies came to an agreement before anything else was said and done.
