New games to be revealed at E3 will make Nintendo systems even more popular - with the DS poised to overtake the PS2?

Nintendo company president Satoru Iwata has given the financial briefing for the third quarter of 08-09 year, and stated he expects life-to-date sales of the DS to eventually overtake Sony's PS2 around the world - something which has already happened in Japan.

Iwata projected the following figures of current and projected sales totals against that of the PS2.

Iwata emphasised the importance of software sales in driving this hardware push. Indeed, speaking of the Wii and the DS, he said:

We can expect more sales of software in the next fiscal year than in the current year. With what kind of software is Nintendo going to achieve this goal? Well, it will be shown at E3 to be held in the U.S. this June.

Does Iwata mean new Zelda or Mario? Or more new Brain Training? We still have a few months before we find out...
