News: Nintendo UK Confident For Xmas

Nintendo say the system will be a sell-out success, even becoming market leader next year after the release of the PS3...

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Nintendo of Europe's Dawn Paine said that the Wii will "absolutely" sell out this Christmas due to high demand, and that pre-orders were looking "very, very healthy".

Regarding the other competitors in the market, the marketing manager stated that to a large extent, the Wii was "such a different entity and experience from anything else in the marketplace that we don't really see anything else as competition [...] We know that retail are so enthused about Wii that we're pretty much going to be taking over retail at Christmas. We're just really confident that Wii's going to be the huge hit."

She was even confident to predict how the gaming landscape might look twelve months on from now - in Christmas 2007. Would the Wii be on top? "We're confident that Wii is going to take the UK market by storm, so when I get my crystal ball out, yes, that's what we would see happening next year."
