News: Nintendo's First Quarter Profits Up

The company is riding the waves created by the DS to greater and greater profits. Annual profit forecast also raised.

In their quarterly earnings report, Nintendo revealed that first quarter profits (ending June 30th) were up 10 percent from last year on a net income of $134 million (up from $120 million a yeae ago). Profits were buoyed by strong DS Lite sales worldwide (and in Japan in particular): the company announced DS and DS Lite sales of 4.54 million units in the quarter. Software sales jumped by over 13 million units from last year to 18.4 million.

Nintendo also revised their annual profit forecast to be $711 million (up from last year's $556 million) on sales of $5.4 billion (up from $5.11 billion).
