Three Nintendo titles sold a million units between April and June this year. Find out what they were below!
As talk of the 3DS price cut still continues to dominate discussions Nintendo has released details about their million sellers for this quarter. The first quarter for the financial year saw Nintendo suffer a 7.7bn loss, although it was not all doom and gloom as three software titles sold over one million units each.
Those three titles were Pokémon Black & White, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Mario Kart Wii. Globally the biggest selling title was Pokémon Black & White, which sold 1,360,000 during the quarter, while Mario Kart Wii sold 1,220,000 units and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D sold 1,080,000 in the few weeks it was released in this quarter.
Looking at the difference between Japan and oversees Pokémon Black & White sold 1,340,000 units oversees and only 20,000 units in Japan, presumably because it was released in a previous quarter in Japan. Mario Kart Wii also sold substantially more abroad than in Japan. While 60,000 units were sold in Japan a staggering 1,170,000 were sold elsewhere in the world according to the report (although we are aware there is either an error of 10,000 units but these are the figures the report claim), perhaps helped by the recent inclusion in a cut-price Wii bundle as bundled software is included. Finally, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D sold 270,000 units in Japan and 810,000 units abroad during the few weeks it was on sale for.
Global figures for these three particular titles place Mario Kart Wii as the biggest selling, unsurprisingly as it is the oldest, with 28,230,000 units, Pokémon Black & White selling 12,870,000 units worldwide and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D of course selling 1,080,000 units.
During the same period in the previous financial year Nintendo had six million selling software titles: Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Whether the removal of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort from hardware bundles led to its declined sales figures is something we can only speculate about.
