News: Nintendo's Profits Down 66%

Nintendo divulges its full annual earnings for the fiscal year ending March 31st...

Nintendo has revealed that its annual net profit for the year ending March 2011 was down 66% compared to the previous year; standing at 77.6bn yen (around $947m). Annual sales also fell 29% to $12.4bn.

The Wii racked up 15.1m sales worldwide during the period, down from 20.1m from the previous year. The system has sold a total of 86m units. Sales of the new 3DS system stood at 3.61m worldwide at the end of March, falling slightly short of the 4m previously forecast. Nintendo still expects to shift 16m 3DS this fiscal year.

With the 3DS out the door, the company expects things to gradually pick up during 2011, with sales forecast to be up 8.4% and profits up 41.7% by the end of the 2012 fiscal year.

Nintendo are set to divulge the first official details of its Wii successor at E3 this June.
