News: No Downloadable Characters For Brawl

There are enough in Smash Bros. Brawl already, says creator Masahiro Sakurai, though he is keeping options open for a DS version of the game...
Brawl creator Sakurai has said that there are to be no downloadable characters unlockable by connecting to WiiConnect24. The game has downloadable content made by other users in the form of new maps created on the map maker, but there will be no new content from Nintendo itself.
"I may be mistaken here, but the Wii doesn't have a hard drive - it's a disc-based system - so I don't think we'll be doing that, I don't think it's going to happen."
Interestingly, he was asked about the possibility of a version of the extremely popular title for the DS, to which he responded that he didn't think there would be any physical control limitations of doing so:
"I personally have no plans to do this myself. If, in the future, such a thing was to be planned, it would be up to Nintendo to decide how and when and in what way they would like to create that sort of game."
We are continuing to pester Nintendo of Europe for that date. We'll keep you posted.
