News: No More Factor 5 For GameCube

Further evidence to prove that leaflet was a fake, but also news which we would rather not hear...

Factor 5 have announced that they will no longer be developing for the GameCube. This means no more Rogue Squadron games, definitely no Pilotwings from Factor 5 either... And also a possibility that other consoles may see new or existing Rogue Squadron games. Note that Factor 5 has not ruled out development for the N5! In fact, word says they are already developing for Nintendo's next console.

April 14, 2004 - In a conversation with IGNcube today, Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said the company would not develop any more titles for Nintendo's GameCube console. The studio is currently creating software for other platforms.

Eggebrecht would not say what titles were in development at Factor 5 nor would he talk specifically about what platform they might appear on. However, at the Game Developers Conference 2004 Eggebrecht was spotlighted as one of the studio heads very keen on Sony PSP development

The Factor 5 president told IGNcube that no software from the San Rafael-based software house would be previewed at the forthcoming Electronics Entertainment Expo 2004, which kicks off this May in Los Angeles

Another news item, another blow to Nintendo? All hopes for the Big N's future appear to lie with E3; With the unveiling of the NDS as well as several key first and second party games, a bad show could spell the beginning of the end, surely?

Any thoughts?

Update:

It seems that IGN may have misinterpreted what Julian Eggebrecht said. He recently spoke to Gamespot and said the following:

"We are extremely excited about both DS and GCNext, so any talk of us abandoning Nintendo platforms altogether is just not true. It is simply because we have moved into next-generation development."

Rather then abandoning the GameCube all together it appears they are simply going to develop for all consoles. While not as good as being exclusive it's still better then loosing them all together. Eggebrecht also ended the interview by stating "there might be a surprise coming from us."
