News: No Pokémon RPGs on Wii

Anyone hoping for a Pokémon RPG game on the Wii will be disappointed to hear it won't happen.

While various members of Game Freak have stated that a Pokémon RPG title for home consoles will not happen, even as far back as when the series started, some fans have still held on hope that a fully fledged game will be playable at home. In a recent interview with IGN Game Freak's co-founder Junichi Masuda has dashed those hopes.

Speaking to IGN Mr. Masuda notes that while Nintendo are working on a Pokémon game for the Wii it is not one similar in style to Black & White. He suggests that the very notion of the games being handheld is at the core of the series and as such fans shouldn't expect a home console version.

"I don't think so. I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well. I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokemon, always. I think handheld really matches the idea of Pokemon that we have. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That's also a match with the Pokemon concept."

When Junichi Masuda was asked what kind of Pokémon game fans can expect for the Wii he notes that as a console it allows people to come together for parties and such, suggesting any future Wii Pokémon titles will be for fun rather than catching 'em all.
