News: NoE To Spend 17M On Marketing

Nintendo announce massive marketing campaign to promote the Wii and DS Lite in Europe!

Every group British consumers will apparently be targeted by Nintendo's upcoming launch campaign for the Wii - which will cover TV, cinema, PR and sampling. The Big N plan to splash 6.5m between now and December, with a further 4.5m from January to March.

According to Wii product manager Rob Lowe, 80 per cent of people in the UK will see the Wii TV advertising at least three times. "It is our intention to make the Wii the number one console in the UK. The campaign focuses on real people playing and having fun," he said.

Meanwhile, the DS Lite is to recieve 6m of funding between now and Christmas, a period in which over a million more units of hardware will be shipped, making a total of 2.7m installed base units in the UK alone. "There will be even more clear water between the DS and any rival handheld console, we're now outselling the competition by two to one. Nobody in retail or publishing should be backing the wrong horse right now," said Nintendo's UK sales director Andy Yates.

Let's hope they come up with some cool adverts!
