News: NoE Warn of Potential Phishing Threat

Nintendo of Europe has placed a warning on its website saying they are investigating a potential phishing threat.
In the wake of the Sony PlayStation Network hack that saw thousands of users' information stolen the whole entertainment industry has been on edge and while companies are working on improving their online security hackers too seem to be trying to get better.
Nintendo of Europe has posted a message on their website warning visitors of a potential phishing scam. 'Phishing' is a term to describe sensitive information being taken by third parties posing as a trustworthy website.
Nintendo has made it clear that users bank, credit card and address details are not kept on the website server so those are not at risk but for the time being they have closed certain areas of the website to investigate the issue. Their full statement can be read below.
We have learnt of a possible phishing threat to users of the European Nintendo website which we are currently investigating. The protection of our customers is our utmost priority and so we have taken the precaution of immediately shutting down some parts of this website until further notice. We would like to reassure you that we do not hold our customer's bank, credit card or address details on the European Nintendo website and so this data is not at risk.Phishing is when someone attempts to find out your personal information, such as usernames and passwords, by pretending to be a trustworthy person or company in an electronic communication such as an email or via a website.
