The 3DS sequel will be the first retail game to be offered as a digital download...
Among Nintendo's comprehensive plans for their venture into the world of digital distribution was some news that was quite big in itself. New Super Mario Bros. 2 has been confirmed to be the first full 'packaged' game to sold digitally on the eShop.
To make things clear again, you'll still be able to buy the game in physical cartridge form as usual. But if you want to download the game straight onto your 3DS instead, that will be option on the eShop. You'll need to have enough space on your SD card to do that though.
You'll also be able to buy a download code from retailers if you want a digital version of the game, but do not have a compatible credit or debit card.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata also revealed that the upcoming 3DS iteration of the Dr Kawashima's Training franchise - tentatively codenamed Devil Training - will also be offered in both physical and digital formats.
Not only that, but Iwata confirmed that this digital distribution system would be present from day one on Wii U.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 launches worldwide this August.
