News: Okami Tidbits From Capcom

We have some nice tidbits about Okami just for you.

Christian Svensson, Capcom's Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development has been releasing some little pieces of info about the upcoming Okami for Wii on the official Capcom forums.

According to Sven, some new info and media will be released VERY soon, as well as some copies of the unfinished game for the media. Capcom hasn't been showing anything, because they only wanted to do it when the game surpassed the PS2 version. He also said that using the paintbrush with the wii remote takes about 10 minutes to get used to, but after that it's effortless, gives a great physical feeling to the game and brings a change of pace to the game. The game isn't very demanding about the shape of the strokes, it focuses on allowing the player to paint quickly with slashes and strokes allowing more intense action sequences.

Due to budget constraints, there will be no TV ads and no special edition, yet there will be an "appropriately sized [marketing]push for the game.". The game will reach European shores later than in America, but the delay won't be as significant as Smash Bros. Brawl's for example (which still doesn't have a confirmed European date). The dialogues can now be skipped, though there won't be any new content in the game, because according to Svensson "40-60 hours of content is plenty for anyone. It doesn't need more bosses. Most people complain that the game is too long as it is. And you could read a few threads around here asking us to shorten or cut it (which we also didn't do)." He does however admit that there are some more reasons (which he can't currently reveal) for PS2 Okami owners to buy the Wii version as well...

Progress on the game is coming along smoothly and the game "is even more beautiful than it was on the PS2.", although the game isn't gold yet (not being manufactured and hasn't been approved by Nintendo). No word on how the graphics were enhanced, but it might be safe to expect 16:9 and progressive scan.

Christian Svensson asks to "spread the Okami gospel across the net, my sons and daughters." and we have complied. He also said in regard to the good sales from the Resident Evil games that "all of you Wii fanatics better have Okami pre-ordered by now because that's the next test (and it's waaay better with Wii controls, than it was on PS2... it's very different, in a good way)." We'll keep you posted.

Many thanks to forumite extraordinaire pedrocasilva for the heads up.
