News: Pokémon Platinum Slated For September

Those lucky Japanese folk will be getting the third installment in the Diamond and Pearl series this September.

As has been tradition since the very first Pokémon games and the advent of Pokémon Yellow, we know that the brilliant minds over at Game Freak are currently working on a third title to accompany Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the DS entitled Platinum (proving that they've not yet run out of precious gems, minerals and colours to name their games after). New information has emerged from the latest issue of the Japanese CoroCoro magazine, detailing the changes which have been made to this particular installment.

Platinum will feature a new storyline revolving yet again around Team Galactic (who have gained a new addition to their team) and a disturbance above Mt. Coronet which causes climate change in the world of Sinnoh. The Battle Frontier will also return from Pokémon Emerald in the Fight Arena, with several new venues being opened up so you can spend those hard-earned battle points.

This new enhanced remake will also feature new Wi-Fi features, including an expanded Pokémon Center basement which will cater for up to 20 - yes, 20 - players online, and a new Poffin-making game played on a machine shaped like Swalot. Jubilife City's GTS (Global Trade Station) has also had a makeover and now includes a Global Terminal.

Interestingly, and perhaps taking inspiration from the recently released Brawl, a new item will be available called a Battle Recorder. You'll now be able to record videos of your proudest battles and share them with the world.

Giratina will be the primary legendary Pokémon in Platinum and will make an appearance with a new form called 'Origin'. An item will also be available to transform the legendary hedgehog-thing Shaymin into its 'Sky Form'.

Pokémon Platinum is scheduled for a release on September 13th in Japan - expect to hear more details at E3 next week.
