News: Poor USA Sales in March

Nintendo of America faced a bad month last month, with poor sales across GameCube titles and the console itself.

According to the latest data released by the NPD Group Nintendo of America had a rather bad month last month. Nintendo's own Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, which was released during March, only sold 39,000 units during its first month.

In January the GameCube saw the release of Resident Evil 4, while in February Star Fox Assault was released. While both titles were exclusive for the GameCube this did not help shift units. During March Resident Evil 4 sold another 50,000 units, meaning in total it has sold nearly 500,000 units. With the 80,000 units of Star Fox Assault sold last month Star Fox Assault now has sold over 180,000 units in America.

The rest of the GameCube top ten, which consisted of; Mario Party 6, NBA Street V3, Robots, MVP Baseball 2005, Dragon Ball Z Sagas, The Incredibles and Super Smash Bros. Melee, each sold less than 48,000 units during the month.

The hardware sales weren't too impressive either. 90,000 GameCube units were sold in America during March. While some good news came in the shape of the DS sales, which has sold around 430,000 units this year in America, things do not look good for Nintendo. There are no new releases during April in America and while it'd be nice to think this will encourage gamers to buy some new releases they missed out on before, it's doubtful.
