News: Portugal's Sales Numbers

Check out the sales of Nintendo's console in the small European country.

For those living in Portugal like myself, the fact that the country is Sony land is not news, but the latest numbers divulged by Portuguese newspaper, Dirio de Notcias, serve as a reminder.

Nintendo has sold 17,000 Wii consoles (10,000 in 2006, 7,000 in 2007), while Sony are said to have sold 20,000 and in a much shorter period of time. Still, the Wii numbers are pretty good considering that Gamecube sold 60,000 to 70,000 in its lifetime. The Nintendo DS has sold 90,000 units up until now.

It's impressive that a 599 console can sell so much in a relatively poor country with 11 million inhabitants. Kudos to forum user Myke Greywolf for the information.
