News: Rare Talk Virtual Console and New DK

Rare's latest mailbox suggests the likelihood of Rare games on the Virtual Console, as well as a new Rare-developed Donkey Kong...

Every so often, Rare answer any questions from their fans and post them on the site. This month sees two answers which could be seen as very good news for Nintendo fans.

The first important question was about seeing non-Donkey Kong Rare games (such as Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark) on the Wii's Virtual Console. To this, Rare replied:

"As for VC, it's ultimately Nintendo's decision what gets released. Beyond the DKC games we don't have anything in the pipeline at the moment, but that doesn't mean it won't happen in future."

This seems to suggest that Rare (and Microsoft) have no problem with their franchises appearing on the Virtual Console - Will Nintendo ask for these Virtual Console games, or will they avoid the likes of Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark as they could be free advertising for sequels of the games on the 360.

That isn't all. Rare were also asked about the possibility of a new "real" Donkey Kong game made by Rare, to which they said:

"Apart from make a new Banjo game and a REAL Donkey Kong game, whatever that is and as we've already said, the former we're already doing, while the latter's not so likely unless Nintendo specifically request it."

So it seems that all Nintendo have to do is ask, and Rare once again become the developer for Donkey Kong games on Nintendo consoles...
