News: Reggie Blows The Lid On Nintendo's Future
Posted 10 Mar 2005 at 15:59 by guest
Revolution will be sexy and online; new franchises at its launch; DS will be online this year: it's all in here. Oh and Mario 128 will be shown at E3.
Thanks to 1UP.com, Reggie Fils-Aime has blown the lid on the future of Nintendo, the Revolution and the DS, and it all makes for exciting news.
The full interview can be found Here, but I've extracted a few key points for you:
"Yeah we're going to talk about DS, we're gonna talk about wireless Internet gaming. We're gonna talk about that we're committed to it, that we're bringing it to life this year." (In reference to Iwata's Keynote speech at today's GDC)
"We're gonna talk about Revolution, in terms of technology partners, we're gonna talk about how we're doing some things to bring it to market in ways that Nintendo hasn't done in the past. We're breaking the mold, we're breaking the mold by having Mr. Iwata do this speech, we're breaking the mold in the way that we're thinking about our next-generation platforms, including DS."(Again in reference to today's speech)
"We're also putting out there, for ours fans, the fact that there's some things we could have done better on previous systems. The whole Internet gaming piece, we missed the boat on GameCube. We won't miss the boat in the future."
Looks like we will get some pretty big news today from Nintendo, which is far removed from the Nintendo we all know and love.
So what does Nintendo think about the GC and its looks, and what to expect from the final Revolution design?
You know what? We're pushing the envelope in making sure all of our products look sexy. SP is a sexy device. DS is a sexy device! I will grant you that GameCube was not a sexy device. (laughs) But you know what? We're smart people, we learn from our mistakes. I will bet you a drink at the bar of your choice, that Revolution will be a very sexy device.
So there you have it; the Rev will be on-line, and sexy. The DS will be online this year, and will have a lot of games coming this year to make you want one, including many yet unannounced.
Also, in an interview Reggie held with IGN:
IGNcube: So we can expect to see something on Mario 128 at E3?
Reggie: Yes. In terms of how we're going to show Mario 128, though, it's likely that we'll show it in video form more than playable. We have so many great games in playable form already.
The rest of the interview can be read here, and I recommend the read, especially where Reggie tries to smash Nintendo's kiddy image with his profanity!
