News: Reggie Suggests No 3D For New Home Console

After pioneering glasses-free 3D on a handheld, it seems Nintendo isn't keen on doubling back on that mantra with its next console...
By now, the 3DS is on shelves almost worldwide (sorry Australia). Already expected to break sales record everywhere, one wouldn't be without tact for wondering whether 3D is now the way forward for Nintendo.
But according to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the concept of 3D without the glasses is so crucial to Nintendo's philosophy that it's unlikely their next home console will incorporate 3D, with current 3D TVs requiring special glasses.
"Glasses-free is a big deal. We've not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we've learned on 3-D, likely, that won't be it."
The comments seem to indicate a refining in Nintendo's 3D vision, after company president Satoru Iwata noted last year that 3D was being actively looked into for the Wii's successor.
Whatever big thing Nintendo's next console incorporates, you can bet it will be unique, and unexpected. What would you like to see for Wii's successor?
