Head inside for a multitude of quotes from NOA's big cheese, as Reggie talks third parties, Zelda, and Mario vs. Call of Duty...
On Gametrailers' latest episode of GT TV, Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime dropped by to discuss all things Big N-related.
Firstly, Reggie acknowledged his excitement for a certain major non-Nintendo title heading towards market very soon. Fils-Aime mused over how he feels New Super Mario Bros. Wii can stand up towards Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in terms of sales. When asked whether he believed Mario could outsell the blockbusting FPS, he had this to say:
"Modern Warfare 2 is on two platforms. On a single platform...absolutely. I say that unequivocally. On one particular platform, I do believe so. You've got to give me the entire holiday selling season, so let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. ...It's going to be close. Modern Warfare is a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it. The new Modern Warfare, I think is going to be a fantastic title. Not to discount it, it will sell well. Of course I'll play it... I play all the content out there."
It looks like Reggie is suggesting Mario can outsell Modern Warfare 2 on the less-popular PS3, at least. But what about Wii's own line-up?
"On each of our platforms their are over 140 new titles coming as well. There's going to be just ton's of software. Here's what you see in terms of third party. You see games like The Beatles: Rock Band that started out on competitive platforms quite strong, but the holiday season looks to be all Nintendo in terms of what they're going to be selling. You take a title like Dead Space: Extraction. Really good reviews... we would have liked to have seen some more marketing support to really drive that home. There's tons of great content out there... absolutely."
Expanding on that point, Reggie goes onto give some stern words for Wii gamers complaining about the lack of decent titles on offer...
"For those core gamers that aren't playing the Wii day-in/day-out, I'm saying look at what you're missing. They're missing Dead Space: Extraction... that is a high quality title. Madworld was a good title, The Conduit was a very good title. One of the questions that I keep asking is, for all of those core gamers who cry the blues about the lack of content, there's been a lot of great content. Open up your wallet and buy some."
Finally, the big man looks ahead to next year, where there seems to be some stellar 2010 titles coming from Nintendo. The topic of a Wii Zelda game is also skillfully dodged...
"In terms of the three we highlighted during E3, Sin and Punishment 2 is going to be something that the Nintendo fan can get really excited about. Galaxy 2... what can you say? Mr. Miyamoto himself is very excited about it. He thinks that it adds even more to that great title. And then Other M... that's another franchise that I've personally got great memories of. Back to a side-scrolling Metroid title. You mention Zelda Wii... we haven't committed to Zelda for 2010. Miyamoto said that it was tracking for 2010... so we'll see how that continues to develop."
