There is still hope for Manhunt 2 in Europe...
Two weeks ago, Rockstar filed an appeal against BBFCs rating of Manhunt 2, stating that there were more games in the market that were similarly violent. The Video Appeals Commitee panel decided in favour of Rockstar (four to three) and the edited version of the game will be rated and released in UK and probably the rest of Europe.
While this isn't the original version of the game which was released as Adult Only in USA, it's still a step forward. David Cooke, director of the BBFC stated:
"The BBFC will carefully study the judgement by the Video Appeals Committee when it becomes available. The BBFC twice rejected Manhunt 2 for its focus on varied and cumulative killings. We recognize that rejection is a very serious step, in which the desire of publishers to market their games, and that of gamers to buy them, must be balanced against the public interest, including the full range of possible harm risks to vulnerable individuals and to any children who may be wrongly exposed to such games. Such balancing judgements are inevitably complex and multifaceted and are made only after very careful consideration of the contents of a work."
This means that the game won't be immediately rated and released, specially because the BBFC still isn't keen on the idea of the game going to the market and want to make an appeal, according to what a BBFC spokesperson said to Gamespot:
"We need to review the written judgement to see if there are any grounds for judicial appeal to the High Court. If we don't see any grounds, we will grant it a certificate."
Good news for those interested in the game, stay tuned for more info.
