News: RuneScape Wii A 'Possibility'

Developer Jagex confirm that a console version of the popular MMORPG is "something they keep considering".

A recent interview by CVG with Andrew Gower, co-founder of Jagex and the creator of RuneScape, has revealed Gower's interest in developing console versions of the hugely popular MMORPG (mass multiplayer online role playing game). He admits that the idea is growing to be ever more tempting, and has become a more realistic goal in the current generation of games consoles due to the larger focus on online gameplay.

Gower said of the possibility of a console version of RuneScape: "with the PS3 and Xbox 360 and the Wii, it's much more tempting, I have to say. Technically porting the game to different platforms isn't a huge amount of work."

However, Gower mentioned that having the game running on several different platforms would 'slow them down', as they would have to release game updates simultaneously across all platforms. "We've always tried to be a very agile company whereby if the players say they want something, or there's something not quite right, we'll fix it there and then."

More online support from third-party developers would be fantastic, and an MMORPG on the Wii could have huge potential. Stay tuned to N-Europe for the latest developments.
