News: Sakurai Describes Smash Bros. as a Miracle

Masahiro Sakurai talks about the difficulty of making Smash Bros. work and whether or not a Capcom character could appear.

The Super Smash Bros. series brings together characters from a whole range of Nintendo franchises to duke it out and the series' creator and producer Masahiro Sakurai has told IGN that it is a "miracle" that it works. He states that considering how disparate the franchises are it is a wonder that they managed to make them fit together and still feel natural:

"In fact, I actually think it's a miracle that we got Smash Bros. and all the Nintendo characters to work together in the first place. Especially when you bring Pokémon into the mix and a lot of the complications that are caused by that being an almost completely different entity on its own, it's really something. So this is something that obviously will come up more as we get started on the new Smash Bros. development, but keeping those things in mind I think is important."

While the original Smash Bros. games featured just Nintendo characters Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Nintendo Wii featured Sega's mascot Sonic and Kojima's Snake. When asked Mr. Sakurai said there is a chance a Capcom character could appear but they would have to make sure it fits within the style and universe of the game, so we could see Mega Man, Leon Kennedy or Phoenix Wright battling in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS games.
