News: See the Official DS Development Emulator

Ever wonder what the official DS development machine looks like? Well, maybe you haven't, but want to see it anyway? Planet GameCube has managed to dig up a picture of the unit.

The device was developed by Intelligent Systems, the folks behind some big Nintendo hits like Fire Emblem, Paper Mario and the GBA Metroid titles. The two ports on top of the unit, in case you're too lazy to read PGC's article, are the cartridge slots - one for DS carts, the other for GBA carts.

Also interesting for Nintendo buffs is the fact that the unit is labled as "Nitro," one of the code names the DS bore while in development. "Nitro" had been rumored to be the name of the final system until Nintendo officially dubbed the DS as the... er... DS!

One final tidbit, as you can see from the picture on Planet GameCube, the unit includes the clunkier E3-style DS.
