News: Sega Announces Spartan: Total Warrior

Sega have announced that they are working with The Creative Assembly on a new game, which sees players take on the role of a warrior against vast armies.

Sega of America, Sega Europe and the UK-based development company The Creative Assembly have announced their plans to release Spartan: Total Warrior for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. This is the first time The Creative Assembly have worked on a console game, previously they have worked on PC games such as the Total War series.

"All of us at Creative Assembly are delighted to be working with Sega, who share our vision of creating genre-defining games," said Tim Ansell, managing director of The Creative Assembly. "Spartan: Total Warrior is an original gameplay experience based upon dynamic, epic action-combat and we could find no better global partner than Sega, who wrote the book on console gaming."

"With Spartan: Total Warrior, Creative Assembly has developed a title that offers both dynamic, real-time combat sequences and epic-sized battles; a combination that has never been technically accomplished on this generation of hardware," added Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of marketing, Sega of America. "This partnership underscores Sega's strategy to publish more great game content designed to appeal to western gamers."

The game will put players in control of one lone warrior, hoping to defeat mighty armies, mythical beasts and legendary monsters. Players will be able to do this by performing combo attacks and 'finishing moves'. To aid them with this players will have both melee and ranged weapons. There is also the chance to dodge attacks from other players, to add another level of skill to the fighting.

As well as this players will be able to fight it out in various battlefields, including arid wastelands, large cities, dungeons, rugged mountains, and the Imperial Coliseum in Rome. The game is due for release in September.
