SEGA is considering acquiring former staff from THQ Studio Australia following its closure.
Yesterday THQ announced that they were to close their two Brisbane-based studios THQ Studio Australia and Blue Tongue, the studio behind de Blob. Many people were saddened that these two studios and their staff were let go but SEGA has expressed an interest in hiring some of the staff members for their own Australian studio.
The closure of THQ Studio Australia and Blue Tongue has resulted in SEGA Studios Australia becoming the largest development studio in Brisbane and SEGA has told MCV that it is considering hiring staff from THQ Studio Australia. SEGA Studios Australia studio director Marcus Fielding told MCV:
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of yet another great Australian developer, and are sorry to see THQ's studios close their doors after so many years of game development. We will be speaking to the SEGA executives to explore our short term hiring strategy to reflect the sudden influx of talent in Australia. We hope to be able to announce the potential for taking on more staff soon."
MCV's article only mentions THQ Studio Australia and not Blue Tongue but it is unclear they are considering both hiring staff from both studios where possible. Stay tuned for any updates on the matter.
