SEGA has acquired UK developer Creative Assembly.
Earlier today we announced that SEGA are working with UK developer Creative Assembly on a new franchise entitled "Spartan: Total Warrior" -the article can be found here.
UK trade publication MCV have revealed that not only is SEGA working with Creative Assembly, but that they now own them. In a buy-out costing $30m SEGA have acquired the 80+ staff of the leading developer and the rights to its popular and critically-lauded Total War series.
Both Creative Assembly and SEGA have been on top form of late, the former has seen its Roime: Total War game ride high in the PC charts for many months. SEGA themselves have enjoyed unprecedented success with their recent "Sonic Mega Collection Plus" on the Xbox and PS2.
This acquisition of a top-flight UK developer marks another point in the turnaround in fortunes of one of the worlds' most beloved developing and publishing houses. It's also great news for the European and UK development scene, as it would appear that Japanese companies are taking more notice of excellent and professional developers away from home.
