In a move that's certain to get gamers heading for fast food in their droves, Sega has secured a promotional deal with McDonald's Germany, to provide mini-game give-aways based on Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball with each Happy Meal.
There's a total of six different LCD mini-games to collect based on well-known Sega characters in various game styles, starting August 29 and running until September 25 in over 1200 restaurants throughout Germany.
There are currently no plans to roll out this deal this year in the UK, although Indie understands the offer could roll out in McDonald's in the UK sometime next year.
To raise awareness of the give-away, McDonald's will feature the Sega brand and Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball on in-store promotional materials and TV adverts throughout the promotional period.
Matthew Woodley, European marketing director, Sega Europe, commented: "Sega is delighted to be working with McDonald's to bring some of its best loved characters to a new and wider audience. In this exciting period of growth for Sega, partnerships with well established and respected brands such as McDonald's provide excellent opportunities for both sides to increase their customer offering."
Andreas Barth, marketing manager kids & family, McDonald's Germany, commented: "The Sega name is synonymous with some of the most recognisable and treasured characters within the video games market. With McDonald's being one of the most popular places for kids eating out, we aim to offer them outstanding play-value and exceptional fun."
"We strongly believe that SEGA and their well known characters perfectly meet that challenge and thus are looking forward to a mutually beneficial partnership between the two brands."
