Sega plan to continue supporting the Wii with games designed for the hardcore audience.
With games such as The House of the Dead: Overkill and stylish action game MadWorld already released for the Wii, Sega have reaffirmed their commitment to bringing mature content to Nintendo's console.
In a recent interview in New York with Sega President Mike Hayes and Sega Vice President of Marketing Sean Ratcliffe with Wired.com, Hayes reflected on the sales performance of several of the company's hardcore titles on the Wii. Although he admitted that sales of MadWorld were disappointing, he claimed the company are investigating different aspects that could have been a factor in the games performance.
"MadWorld sales were very disappointing, but was that to do with the platform? Was it that people didn't like the art style? Or that people didn't like the way the game played through? It could be many things, which we're obviously researching."
The Sega President insisted that he regards performance of The Conduit at retail a success but deliberated on the contrasting fortunes of The House of the Dead: Overkill in Europe, where it sold reasonably well, and America, where it was less triumphant.
However, despite differing levels of success across Sega's mature output, Mike Hayes gave some reassuring words when asked about the company's commitment to bringing hardcore games to the Wii.
"Absolutely. You'll see more games in that genre coming from us."
So, with games such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and the recently announced Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll on the way from Sega along with the promise of more mature content on the Wii in future, it looks Nintendo's main rival from the early nineties still has plenty to offer all gamers this generation.
