News: Shinobi 3DS Details Emegre

The first details about the Shinobi revival on the 3DS have emerged.

Sega's classic Shinobi series is due to be revived on the 3DS and the first details about what to expect have been released in the newest issue of Nintendo Power. The game appears to be a new iteration, rather than an update of one of the classic games, as there will be a brand new ninja although Sega refused to announce the name.

The title is described as being a 2.5D side-scroller in which you must make your way across the level slashing enemies with your katana. You can combo attack enemies to juggle them in the air and use throwing knives, which automatically recharge. In addition to this the hero can use fire, water, lightning and shadow magic so there is no shortage of ways in which you can eliminate foes.

In terms of moving around the world the ninja can perform wall jumps and swing hand-over-hand from the ceiling, while still being able to defend yourself from enemies. For those hard to reach places you will be equipped with a grappling hook and when the enemies close in you can double jump or use slide attacks evasively.

Shinobi begins in Oboro Village, which is attacked by mysterious forces. As temples begin to burn and buildings collapse you must face off against ninjas and samurai against the burning backdrop. You will also be able to ride on a horse through a forest, although the horse can trip over so you have to be careful!

After you progress from the village and through the forest you must survive an ambush while rafting down a river, climb a waterfall, explore caves and snow-covered mountains and battle a mysterious female warrior, all in the first level!

The title is also set to feature a fight on the back of a moving jet and a battle with a "giant cyborg megalodon shark". However, if you feel like a break there is a 3D throwing star mini-game to enjoy. The game will reward players with bonus content that is unlocked by progressing through the game. Additionally Shinobi will make use of StreetPass, although it is not mentioned in what manner at the moment.

More details are likely to emerge at E3 next week but let us know what you think so far in the comments section below.
