Avast! Sid Meier's Pirates! sets sail for Wii!

2K Games today announced that a new version of the hugely-popular action/adventure/strategy pirate-sim Sid Meier's Pirates! is heading for Wii.

The Wii version will likely remain similar to the iterations that released on the PC in 2004 and the Xbox in 2005. Fencing, treasure hunts, ship battles and crew recruitment are all confirmed to be returning. Also promised is the inclusion of 27 "fully customisable" ships and non-specified "Wii Remote controls", as well as two brand new mini-games in the form of Bombardment and Lock Picking.

The Wii version is being handled by 2K China, who recently contributed to the development of BioShock 2.

No release window has been specified for Pirates! but we'll keep you posted.
