News: Six Titles Getting 3D Classics Treatment

The latest Iwata Asks feature states that currently six games is set to be part of the 3D Classics range.

The latest Iwata Asks feature goes into detail about the 3D Classics range that will make part of the eShop and talked about how development for one such title became far more work than they intended.

While talking to the director in charge of the 3D classics, Takao Nakano, he mentioned that currently at the time of the interview there are six 3D Classics in development with two now released, being Xevious in Japan and Excitebike. Iwata also mentioned that the reason Xevious became a 3D classic is because they wanted to see it and Solvalou take off 3D.

Nakano then went on to talk about the troubles of trying to develop the title in 3D with the original title unfolding on a flat surface as you played, but as soon as Solvalou began to float, troubles arose. Iwata and Nakano mentioned that it took around twenty times the effort in making Xevious a 3D Classic than it normally takes to port a game. So much so that they asked the original developers Arika to redo graphics and programming from scratch only for Iwata and Miyamoto to object and say to put it back to the way it was before.

As ever N-Europe will bring you more news on the newly released eShop.
