News: Slippy Speaks!

Nintendo of Europe have started a new feature for the launch of Starfox Adventures. Each character tells their own story of their career, first up, Slippy Toad.

"Howdy! Slippy Toad's the name - ace Arwing pilot and Research and Development expert extraordinaire. No flies on me! (I've eaten them all, see).

"How did I get involved with the great Fox McCloud? Well, I was little more than a tadpole, barely out of my primitive pre-lung vascular plexus, when I first met my hairy pal. We were both studying at the Defense Academy on Corneria. He had brains and a famous dad so I didn't think he'd want anything to do with pond life like me.

"But you know what? We became bestest buds. And when he asked me to join the new second-generation Star Fox team alongside Peppy and Falco, I hopped right to it. I just knew my dad - Beltino Toad, Director of Engineering at the Space Dynamics Co. - would approve of me dropping out of college on a whim.

"No doubt about it, when we faced Andross for the first time back in '94 - my blood went cold. But I grew. By '97, and our second big mission, I wasn't the irritating 'adequate' pilot constantly needing Fox to get my sorry behind out of easily-avoidable scrapes anymore! Well, actually, I was. But at least I got to use all the engineering know-how I crammed into my brain at college, while building the Land Master tank and Blue Marine sub.

"'How do you like that new Land Master I built, Fox?' My best bud never got tired of hearing that one! Or at least I don't think he did - he stopped answering after the 57th time.

"After Andross croaked for the second time, I leapfrogged my peers to land a job in Research and Development on Corneria. But I still have time to help out my old pal Fox. On his latest adventure, he might moan about how long my dinosaur language interpreter takes to finish (you can't rush genius, pal!) - but without my handy hints, and the SharpClaw Disguise I'm developing, he'd be extinct for sure!"
