News: Sonic Generations StreetPass Details

Wondering how Sonic Generations utilises StreetPass? Well wonder no more!

Sega's celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sonic franchise is set to bring the past and the present together with Sonic Generations. It was announced recently that the 3DS version of the title would utilise the console's StreetPass technology and now Sega has outlined exactly how it will be used.

Andriasang state that Sonic Generations will use StreetPass in two different ways, although they claim it to be SpotPass but we are assuming this is a typo. In Sonic Generations StreetPass will enable players to exchange Player Cards and also exchange missions.

The profile cards contain details about the player, their Sonic Generations play time, which of Sonic's friends is their favourite and how long they've been playing the series. According to Sega the more you exchange profile cards the more your cards will be updated.

In addition to this players can transfer one of 100 missions through StreetPass. As well as the main game Sonic Generation features 100 missions for players to work through, including challenges such as 'Revenge', in which you must defeat a set number of enemies, and 'Special Trial', which alters Act 1 of Mushroom Hill Zone.

These missions can also be accessed within the game by collecting Game Coins, so if you live in an area that doesn't feature many 3DS owners you will still be able to enjoy the missions. Sonic Generations is due out at the end of next month but in the mean time check out our hands on impressions.
